Outstanding Olympians
Several students from Hollifield Station Elementary School Gifted and Talented Program were among the nearly 150,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program. They participated in a series of five monthly contests of 5 problems each, from November to March. Under the coaching of Mrs. Speelman and Ms. Biondo, students were taught to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively.
The students responded well and all were recognized with certificates for their participation. 59 of the mathletes won national awards for excellence within Division E for grades 4-6.
The gold pin is awarded to those in the top 2%. With a score of 23 out of 25 points, 5th grader Iain Lee was in this extraordinary group.
The silver pin is awarded to those in the top 10%, including the following 5th grade students: Ashley Cursey, Patrick Chen, David Hopkins, Hee Yon Park, Sanjan Pilla, and Noah Zambidis.
The trophy is awarded to the highest individual score within each grade. With a score of 23 out of 25, Iain Lee earned the 5th grade trophy. With a score of 16 out of 25, Saniya Mahate earned the 4th grade trophy.
The embroidered felt patch is awarded to those in the top 50% of all the participants, including the following students: (5th Grade) Abhinav Balamurugan, Pauline Chang, Starina Chang, Patrick Chen, Ashley Cursey, Melanie Dolce, Emma Duguay, Bushra Fatima, Aditi Hedge, David Hopkins, Diana Imre, Ellin Kim, Sophia King, Andrew Lee, Iain Lee, Sean Lee, Crystal Lewis, Chris Ling, Amanda Maisel, Flavio Martinez, Alexandra Masse, Tom Michaels, Christian Oh, Daniel Oh, Mahi Pandya, Hee Yon Park, Sanjan Pilla, Ian Rahman, Isha Raje, Abishay Reddy, Vikas Reddy, Justin Reed, Meera Sevalia, Keya Shah, Benjamin Shin, Milan Solanki, Abigail Song, Angelina Valeri, Kelsea Wisniewski, Noah Zambidis (4th Grade) Shaqib Ahmad, Tanishq Ahuja, Rishi Chandu, Connor Croft, Ethan Doan, Nathan Jackson, Katie Katcheves, Saniya Mahate, Caden Manwiller, Hari Meka, John Michaels, Michael Mironenko, Chris Moon, David Nagy, Rayan Overcast, Lalitha Ravipati, Varun Samy, Anoushka Sarin, Mira Tadimalla
